Amazon Vine: Is It Worth It?

by Brad Hunt July 3, 2024

A product on Amazon that has 1 review is 65% more likely to be bought than a product with no reviews.

That’s a major gap, and many sellers who are just launching have felt something very similar before they get their first positive review.

Is It Worth It?

Many sellers ask me if the Amazon Vine program is worth it. The short answer is probably yes if you don’t have any reviews already and are struggling to get any.

It can be expensive, so you need to consider your product lineup. For example, we work with some sellers whose products cost thousands of dollars. Giving a bunch of those products away probably doesn’t make sense. Remember, you’re not only paying a fee to use the Vine program but also giving away free products to the reviewers as a trade for their review.

In many cases, however, it can make a lot of sense to push to get reviews especially if you have a product you know is better than your competitors.

Consider This Before Joining the  Amazon Vine Program:

  • Does the cost of the paid program and giving away free products make sense? Lower-priced products are much easier to justify than really expensive ones.
  • Are you eligible? You need to be brand registered and your product needs to have fewer than 30 reviews when you enroll
  • Do you already have a strong enough brand with products with many high reviews? If so, you might be able to leverage a few tactics to generate more sales and reviews than you would if you’re just starting.

On average, customers need to read somewhere between 6-10 reviews before they start to trust a business or product. So getting to those first 10 reviews can be a game changer for your sales velocity, conversion rate, and rankings.
